We want to bring people together to create a vision for the Lower Ouseburn Valley, Newcastle upon Tyne, through a Neighbourhood Plan.
What is Neighbourhood Planning?
People who live and work in Ouseburn can form a Neighbourhood Forum and agree a Neighbourhood Area under the Localism Act 2011. They can then prepare a Neighbourhood Plan, with help from others including Newcastle City Council. When this Plan passes a referendum, it becomes part of the statutory planning process. You cannot block development but you can say what type of development is best where.
Ouseburn Futures has submitted an application to the City Council for the Ouseburn Valley Neighbourhood Forum to be approved, alongside an application for the Area to be covered by the Forum to be approved. This is the process we have to follow, as set out in the Localism Act 2011. Find out more about this and how you can have your say before the 29th February 2016 deadline…
We have also drafted a new constitution for Ouseburn Futures that includes the Ouseburn Futures Neighbourhood Forum (when or if designated by Newcastle City Council).
We need the majority of our members to vote for the new constitution to be adopted. Then we can submit our application to Newcastle City Council for the Ouseburn Valley Neighbourhood Area and the Ouseburn Futures Neighbourhood Forum to be designated.
